A visit to the Louis Vuitton Foundation, feels like taking a voyage on a beautiful contemporary boat. The sails in its structure, the water feature, and the outdoor terraces give an ‘out-on-deck’ feel. The Louis Vuitton heritage brings another impression; the warmth in the wood panels, the old Louis Vuitton trunks hanging on the walls, the city guide books in the book shop, all give a spirit of travel throughout.
It’s that heritage and sense of exploration that I love about Louis Vuitton. A return to a time when travel was a destination and getting there was not as important as the experience of going. Just to travel is to live and the sense of adventure that it brings.
For me, the star attraction is the building itself; a beautiful space that invites you to explore, to go further. I was steered out on deck, to see the views and explore the hidden details and the element of surprise that lay around every corner. Out there, Frank Gehry allows us to set sail, to travel, to experience…un bon voyage.
