Dress to Dream

Peter Copping’s Spring/Summer 14 collection for Nina Ricci tells a romantic, feminine story inspired by ‘a historical period in men’s dressing’. As lights fell in the ‘Espace Ephémère’ in les Jardins des Tuilleries this week, a shear white curtain fell like a blank canvas right along the length of the catwalk, setting a perfect backdrop to showcase this glittering collection.

Borrowing elements from the eighteenth century, beautifully tailored waistcoats, skirts and jackets with pleats make a striking statement. A revisit of the shirt dress is a striking favourite, the movement is elegant and as loosely tied ponytails sail by, I am captivated.

Soft powdery pastels and powdery golds add a brush of shimmering colour to a blank canvas. Dresses in silks and dove grey take us to warm summer days, garden parties, secret gardens, and escapes to the countryside.

True to Copping’s form, details are precious. Take the beautiful dove grey knit as an example. The chic colour, the fit and the fabric, the roses embroidered along the sleeve. It gives a wonderfully romantic feel, a defining favourite piece.

Touches of ‘bleu de Sèvres’ were electric and unexpected.  Silk dresses and  jackets layered over floral prints were next to sail by. If mine was anything to go by, hearts were racing.

It was truly dream moments at Nina Ricci this week and to close out the collection a stunning dream dress in emroidered French lace graced the catwalk. This spring Nina Ricci gives us a glittering romantic collection, the most beautiful accessories, and dresses to dream.
