Stepping off Avenue George V and into Miss Ko, I felt like I had woken up from an oriental dream and landed in the swirling swell of an Asian capital. MissKo is the new concept restaurant designed by Philippe Starck in the heart of the Golden Triangle in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. From the décor to the furnishings there is something slightly mysterious and spellbinding about this place. It’s like a crazy Asian collage, a unique sensory experience that will take you beyond the plate.
Far East inspired fabulousness is everywhere! Large tangerine parasols hang from the ceiling creating a soft ambient light and towards the back of the restaurant a giant Japanese teapot also hangs from the ceiling. The walls of the restaurant are brought to life with a fantastic oriental fresco that seems to go on and on. One of the striking and almost hypnotizing features is a 26m long bar made from hundreds of TV monitors broadcasting Asian media channels that runs the entire length of the restaurant.
The cuisine is a fresh re-mix of French Asian Fusion and done very well. Bubble tea cocktails to start, followed by plates of sushi and sashimi (with a twist and contrasting flavours). An oriental take on the salad niçoise really hits the spot. Mango sorbets and madelines with hints of the orient are the perfect finalé. And in true Starck fashion, the magic doesn’t stop at the powder room door. Let’s just say that I wondered if here in the ladies I was getting an intimate introduction to Miss Ko herself?
Be careful Miss Ko will put a spell on you…
